Reviews From Happy Clients

Vintage Window Restoration has been helping local clients with their window preservation, restoration, and repair projects since 2012 and we are thankful for their kind words.

  • Chris just finished restoring all the windows on our 1939 house and we can already feel the difference!! After living in this house for almost ten years, we’ve never had the ability to open and close our windows. But Chris came in and changed all that in just a few hours! With his vast knowledge on historic windows and his thorough toolkit, he completely revolutionized how we now regulate the temperature in our house! He was efficient, tidy, thorough, and friendly the entire time. An absolute pleasure to have in our home. You can tell that this man is a master of his craft and passionate about what he does.

  • Chris is the real deal! He is highly skilled in vintage window restoration. I was privileged to get a tour of his workshop and even some of the machines he uses are vintage restored machines so that the results are truly from another era! He is professionally trained and just all around the coolest guy you’d ever want to meet. His love for the craft is what powers his high quality of work. I would recommend him for any project you may have in mind!

  • Chris is awesome (and I don’t use the word awesome loosely)! He repaired and revitalized every double hung window in our house. He educated us about it without being condescending. Such a great guy and believes in what he’s doing.

  • I bought my lovely home in Albany’s Monteith district three years ago, and shortly commenced worrying about my original double-hung windows on the south side, second floor.  They had taken a beating over the past century and needed care and the protection of storm windows no one seemed to make anymore.  Timing was right. Chris Gustafson and his working museum of period equipment built my storm windows, preserved with pine tar, as his first essay on such a project.  With his usual care, he and his team also rebuilt the original windows – catching the glass from one that disintegrated upon removal – returning the house to the sort of sound quality that is an echo of our craftsman past.

  • Chris helped save our 1880s Queen Anne front porch. With the skills, tools and boundless energy for historic preservation, Chris knew exactly what to do to preserve two badly water damaged and deteriorating fancy turned posts on our front porch.

Chris helped us understand each step of the repair process and even documented his work with these posts. By making appropriate repairs, the authenticity, design and structure of our old porch was maintained. There is a cost for historic preservation, but we felt Chris’ fees were very reasonable for the work and results he provided. We highly recommend Chris to anyone needing quality preservation and maintenance of their historic homes and buildings.

  • We really wanted to be able to open—and close!—the double-hung windows in our circa 1889 Albany house, but years of thick paint and some warping and woofing made it impossible. Chris and his crew gave us nine open-able, close-able windows for the summer breezes, plus a set of storm windows to improve the snugness of the house in winter winds. Chris heads a careful crew who kept things clean, and kept us informed about the progress of their work. They do special work, and they do it especially well.
